Climate Change Adaptation

The Offinso North area is at the savannah transitional zone, the place use to have a very rich soil for which cocoa production was a huge success in the past.

However, in the not too distant past that has change dramatically; cocoa production does not thrive any longer as the soil of the area is getting drier by the day. SVMFS has been collaborating with Local Agencies, Developmental Organisations and Private Businesses to assist mostly small holder farmers to adapt by promoting agricultural produce that thrives in such ecological zone.

SVMFS is currently extending credit to some companies that are into seed production, like cashew seedlings which does well in such drier soil conditions.

Cashew as a cash crop takes close to 4 years to generate revenues; to aid in farm maintenance and the upkeep of these small holder farmers up to that period, SVMFS extend loans to the members of the Cooperative in a revolving structure to do inter cropping of seasonal food items that can be harvested and sold for income within a shorter time.
